Bone marrow is the soft, sponge-like material found inside bones. It contains immature cells called stem cells that produce blood cells. There are three types of blood cells: white blood cells, which fight infection; red blood cells, which carry oxygen to and remove waste products from organs and tissues; and platelets, which enable the blood to clot. Most stem cells are found in the bone marrow, but some stem cells called peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) can be found in the bloodstream. Umbilical cord blood also contains stem cells. Stem cells can divide to form more stem cells, or they can mature into white blood cells, red blood cells, or platelets.
Stem cell is basically the biological cells which further differentiate and form the stem cells further. Generally found in the multi-cellular organisms, the stem cells are one of the prime components of the nervous system. They are basically employed to act as a repair system in adult human beings and as the developer in young embryo.
The stem cell has a prominent role to play in the human body and thus in case of damage, the transplant is the best option. Stem cell transplant is basically the plantation of a new stem cell in the site body collecting it from the donor. It is a procedure that is generally practised over the victims of cancer, bone marrow damage and such related effects. It is use of the stem cell to cure the disease.
Cancer:
The cancer such as leukaemia, multiple myeloma and some lymphomas can easily be cured with the help of the stem cell. Any victim of the related types of the cancer can get a therapy
done.
Excess of blood components:
The damaged blood cells at times affect other cells and this in turn produces the excess amount of Red Blood Cells (RBCs), White Blood Cells (WBCs) or even platelets
which have their own demerits. To counter this problem, a stem cell surgery can help.
Diet:
Maintain diet to avoid the underweight or over weight condition.
Tests:
One shall undergo few tests before finally getting into the operation hall.
Primarily, after the surgery, the human become infertile. Sperm banking or frozen embryo for male and female respectively shall be adopted as a preventive measure.
Not only the prior steps matter but the post surgery steps can make a big difference.
Personal hygiene is one of the most important points to be taken care of. Proper hygiene shall be maintained.
The bleeding shall be avoided as far as possible.
